Ingredients:
- 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
- 3-4 tbsp cooking oil
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 1 tbsp ginger paste
- 1 tbsp garlic paste
- 2-3 green chillies, sliced
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 cup water
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Heat the oil in a large pot or karahi over medium heat. Add the onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Add the ginger paste, garlic paste, and green chillies. Sauté for a minute or two.
- In a small pan, dry roast the cumin seeds and coriander seeds for a few minutes until fragrant. Grind them into a fine powder using a spice grinder or mortar and pestle.
- Add the ground spices, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt to the pot. Stir well and cook for a minute.
- Add the chicken pieces to the pot and stir well to coat them with the spice mixture. Cook for a few minutes until the chicken starts to brown.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the yogurt until smooth. Add the yogurt to the pot and stir well.
- Add the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the chicken cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the chicken is fully cooked and tender, turn off the heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with rice or naan.
